Touring with the Experts: Kingwood Center

Spend an early spring day with Tom Buchter, Holden’s director of horticulture and facilities; and meet Charles Gleaves, director of Kingwood Center in Mansfield, on this tour of the gardens of Kingwood Center to experience the peak bloom of 35,000 spring bulbs and their companion plants. Gleaves will highlight the plantings, design and development of the gardens along with Kingwood’s history. Then go behind the scenes to the production greenhouses used to grow the annuals that create waves of color in the gardens throughout the summer. The ride offers a great opportunity for conversation with Buchter on what to look for and how to experience the gardens at Kingwood or for general questions on horticulture and your gardens at home. Bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy on the return trip. Beverages provided. This is a rain or shine event, so please dress for the weather and walking. Our chartered motor coach is scheduled to leave Holden promptly at 8am and return by 2pm. The Kingwood tour is from 10 am – noon. Please note the house will not be viewed during this tour.
