Education & Community Engagement

VIP Highlights & Natural Areas Tour Guide*
Lead adult tram and walking tours of Holden’s gardens and natural areas.

School Guide
Help students discover nature by leading them through a hands-on tour of a Holden forest, field or pond.

Nature Play Facilitator*
Engage children in hands-on nature play programming at the Habitat Hut or Buckeye Bud’s Adventure Woods.

Tree Tale Tellers
Lead tree and nature-themed storytime programs at libraries around Northeast Ohio in March/April.

Canopy Walk & Emergent Tower Interpreters*
Using provided materials educate and engage visitors by telling the story of these amazing structures and the forest that surrounds them

Library*
Assist visitors, help staff with cataloging and filing projects.

Tree Steward/Arbor Care Volunteer*
Train to assist with basic tree care, plantings, inventories, and education efforts in area communities.

Horticulture

Volunteer Gardener
Assist horticulture staff with the upkeep of one of the Arboretum’s gardens.

Plant Recorder
Assist with cataloging and inventory of plant collections.

Nursery Assistant
Help transplant seedlings, propagate by cuttings, water plants, weed and wash pots.

Conservation

Bluebird & Purple Martin Monitor*
Check and record bluebird activity on an assigned trail once a week, April-Sept. Two-season min. commitment for new monitors.

Land Steward
Work with conservation staff to remove invasive plant species in and around Holden’s natural areas.

Police & Safety

Trail Monitor*
Regularly walk an assigned trail to remove light debris, alert staff to safety hazards and provide assistance to guests.

Parking Assistant*
Help Holden police with parking of cars and guest assistance at Holden major events.

Guest Services

Special Events*
Friendly faces are needed to help staff our many special events, including Pancake Weekend, Plant Sale, Bouquets Wine Tasting, Woodland 5K, Woodland Twilight Benefit, Celebration of Trees and Goblins in the Garden. Download a 2018 Goblins in the Garden Adult Application.

Membership Services Assistant*
Welcome and process new members in the Corning Visitor Center, provide guest/member information and assistance in planning their visit.

Guest Services & Visitor Center Assistant*
Help to staff the visitor ticketing desk or phone line. Greets guests and members, answers questions and provides an overview of the property, collects admissions, registers event participants, and provides additional clerical support to ticketing and administrative staff.

Lantern Court Private Event Assistant*
Provide an extra set of hands and eyes during evening and weekend functions held at the estate of Warren H. Corning.

Research

Research Lab Assistant
Experienced volunteers may be assigned to work with Holden research scientists or assist with data analysis for specialized projects in forest and plant ecology, environmental science or related research.

Leach Research Station
Assist research staff with gardening, maintenance and research projects at the David G. Leach Research Station, specializing in rhododendrons and azaleas, in Madison.

 

Administration/Central Services

Communications & Marketing Support
Individuals who have PR or marketing experience and/or possess strong digital photography or writing skills may assist with a variety of communications projects.

Office Assistant/Receptionist
Answer phones, enter data and assist with mailings, filing or other clerical tasks.
