2010 Bluebird Report

We have wrapped up data entry – thanks to Joanne Monasky, Tom Frankel, Dolores Pinchot, Sue Ash-Sanford, and Laura Morris Giust– and we can report another great year for our birds. Our trails fledged 406 bluebirds in 2010 – up from 360 last year.  In fact, that makes 2010 the second best year in the history of Holden’s bluebird program, and only the third time we fledged more than 400 bluebirds.

The following chart shows the numbers of bluebird eggs, hatchlings, and fledglings over the past two decades.

This year we got a little help from Penitentiary Glen.  Five orphaned bluebirds from their rehab center were placed into foster nests at Bicknell, Upper Baldwin and Corning.  All five birds appear to have fledged successfully and contribute to the total # of birds fledged in 2010.
