4th Friday July 23 |
Explore the ethnobotany of trees with Rick Hederstrom. You'll have fun in this program and leave thinking about trees in a very different way. After an intro to ethnobotany (the relationship between people and plants) you will learn how Native Americans used trees for food, medicine and needed products and how our society today uses trees. This will be an outdoor walk (weather permitting) so wear proper shoes. |
| August 6 | Join us for a hike at the beautiful Headland Dunes State Nature Preserve. Our guide will be Adam Wohlever, Manager, Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. There are no improved trails so hiking will be in the sand. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water to drink. Meet us at Mentor Headlands State Park or at the Corning Visitors Center at 9:30am to carpool. The park is located at 9601 Headlands Road in Mentor and boasts a mile long natural sand beach which is the largest the the State. |
| August 20 | Meet our new lead horticulturist, Viki Ferreniea and our new horticulturist Lori Gogolin as we meander through the Butterfly Garden to see the beautiful flowers and discuss what new ideas they have for us in the gardens. Bring your gardening questions and suggestions. |
| Sept 3 | Join us for a very special visit to the new TriPoint Medical Center in Concord. Our guide will be Ferole Parmelee, corporate director of decision support. An avid gardener, Ferole was instrumental in lake Health's decision to incorporate rooftop gardens. Visit the Welcome Garden, Gratitude Garden, rooftop gardens and more. Research shows that gardens and water features help to calm anxiety. Meet us at the main entrance to TriPoint or meet at the Visitors Center at 9:30am to carpool. |
| Sept 17 | Don't miss our annual plant exchange. Now is the time to divide all those perennials you have too many of and share them with your friends. Bring plants to share and go home with new and different plants! Labeling your plants would be helpful. Meet outside the Corning Visitors Center by the bleachers. |
