Take your cue from nature and explore your creativity letting the subtle shapes, forms and textures of trees inspire a handmade pendant and earrings created with Precious Metal Clay. PMC is made of
microscopic particles of fine silver suspended in an organic binder. High temperature firing burns away the binder leaving your pure silver creations. No experience necessary, tools and materials provided.

Description Find tranquility on a moonlit hike over snow-covered trails in search of Holden’s resident winter wildlife.  Then cozy up to an inviting fire with a variety of wines and gourmet cheeses. This is an all-weather event, so dress for climate and wear appropriate hiking shoes. These hikes fill quickly – prompt registration is suggested (Adults Only).

Can't "Resist" Painting on Silk

Description

Just in time for Holiday gift giving. Capture the subtle beauty of nature's winter colors in shimmering hand painted silk using a resist method and water-based dyes that flow like watercolor.  Release your inner artist with this all-day workshop as you create two painted silks, either 12” x 60” or 26” square, while learning brush control, color mixing, shading and a bit of history.  Advanced students can make one large silk.  No experience necessary, all are welcome. Bring a bag lunch.

Description

Gather your family and friends and learn to snowshoe. After a brief demonstration, you will strap on snowshoes and go for a gentle hike to explore the great outdoors. We’ll start with the all important “trick” of how to stand up from a prone position. After participating in one session you will be very comfortable hiking in deep snow with snowshoes. Registration required. Program is only held when there is adequate snow cover.

Ice Photography Workshop with Ian Adams

Description

Join environmental photographer Adams for a slide program on winter nature photography followed by an exciting hike through the woods into the icy depths of Stebbins Gulch to admire and photograph the spectacular icicles and frozen waterfalls that line the gorge in midwinter. Bring a bag lunch and be prepared for wet, rugged hiking conditions. Meet again on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 7-9pm to review and critique your Stebbins Gulch photos and learn some Photoshop tips for fine-tuning and sharing your winter photographs. This class is designed for people with a good understanding of photography basics.

Tai Chi with Trees

Description

With its focus on coordinating breath and flowing gestures, Tai Chi is often described as meditation in motion. Medical research supports the many benefits of Tai Chi including positive effects on the immune system, lower blood pressure, increased flexibility, improved range of motion and balance, and reduced joint and back pain. Tai Chi is slow synchronized motion, standing and seated, reflective of the poetic rhythms of nature, uniting body, mind and spirit. The gentle movements increase muscle strength and tone, and develop awareness of “chi” for empowering inner stillness and relieving stress and anxiety. Tai Chi is easy to learn and suitable for all ages, body types and levels of fitness.
