Hoary Redpoll At Holden

The hoary red poll is lighter in color than the common redpoll, with less streaking and less red on its breast. Hoary redpolls may appear with an invasion of the common redpoll, which is taking place this January, and one has been spotted at Holden at Buckeye Bud’s Bird Feeding Station. Althought we don’t know the last time a hoary redpoll was seen at Holden, there have been occassional sightings reported in the Akron/Cleveland region over the past few decades.

Matt Valencic shared this photo of the hoary redpoll, taken on Jan. 10, 2013.
