Description

For over three decades the Morris Arboretum, in collaboration with The Holden Arboretum, has had an active plant exploration program.  In his illustrated talk, Meyer will show us the most promising and interesting plants collected and take us to fascinating collection locales in China and Korea.  See images of beautiful landscapes and listen to tales of early trips to China when Meyer was among the first western visitors to rural areas in 50 years!  He will also highlight examples of the dramatic social changes in China over the past 30 years.

 

The director at Morris Arboretum since 1991, Meyer is a leader in the field of plant exploration and evaluation, a popular lecturer, and has played a major role in the Morris Arboretum’s restoration of its Victorian gardens and outstanding plant collections.

Rhododendron Plant Combinations: It's Easy Once You Know How

Description

The new Paine Rhododendron Discovery Garden and portions of the Layer Rhododendron Garden will serve as your classroom as you discover how to incorporate rhododendrons, azaleas and beautiful companion plants into your home landscape. During this outdoor program you will be exposed to some basic design principals and proper planting procedures to successfully grow these plants followed by care and pruning tips. An ideal program for those new to ericaceous plants or for those who want to delve a bit deeper and try some new plant combinations. Many of these plants will be highlighted in a fall companion class as they possess wonderful fall color.  Please dress for the weather of the day.

Description

Take this infrequent opportunity to visit one of our horticultural gems, the David G. Leach Research Station in Madison, Ohio. Meander among gorgeous rhododendrons in a woodland setting and check out the new rhododendron hybrids that are being bred and selected for future introduction. Steve Krebs, director of the Leach Research Station, and other knowledgeable guides will lead informative tours.
