Holden Tree Treks: Evolution and Diversity of Trees

A new twist and format for 2012. Clem Hamilton, Holden's president and CEO; Charles Tubesing, plant collections curator and Ethan Johnson, plant records curator, will assign each of their popular Saturday tree walks a theme relating to the evolution and diversity of trees, in which they will reveal some of the fascinating stories that are illustrated by Holden's world-class woody plant collections.  An hour-long classroom session will be followed by a two-hour tree walk. Watch your summer schedule for sessions on the evolution and diversity of conifers and oaks..
Close Relatives: The Eastern North America/NE Asia Connection

If you were to visit a woodland in Japan or northeast China, a number of the trees would look quite familiar to you. This session will explain the connections between the floras of these widely separated regions, and will feature tree “cousins” from Asia and America.
