The log jam pictured above showed up out of nowhere following a summer storm and completely blocked the creek. Obstacles like these are an inevitable part of every tour. They change every year, with new ones forming and old ones swept cleanly away. All visitors to the Gulch have to be prepared to climb over logs and rock as the tour works its way up the creek. Log jams are especially tricky to navigate in winter, when everything is covered in snow and ice. The reward is the stunning scenery and serene silence experienced during the tour. It is well worth the effort.
