Arbor Day 2013

Arbor Day is the annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. Holden will celebrate with a weekend filled with activities, as well as a Scientist Lecture and story times for children held at regional libraries.

In celebration of Arbor Day, admission to Holden is free all weekend.

 

Celebration Activities

Great Lakes Timber ShowReturning This Year – Great Lakes Timber Show

The Great Lakes Timber Show show features chainsaw carving, axe throwing, wood chopping, one and two-man crosscut sawing, modified chain sawing, log rolling and loads of fun.

 

Enjoy this fascinating display and learn more about the important role lumberjacks play in forest and tree management through selective harvesting.

 

 

Regional Library Story Times

Holden volunteers are scheduled to visit over 30 area libraries in the month of April as Tree Tale Tellers, sharing stories and free activities related to trees, appropriate for preschoolers and children up to age 8. See list of participating libraries and dates.

Visit Holden's Healthy Tree Exhibit

Located in the Arthur S. Holden Sr. Hedge Collection in the Display Garden, the Healthy Tree Exhibit shows homeowners how to plant and maintain happy, healthy trees. Experts will be on hand during the Arbor Day celebration to answer specific questions.
