Have You Seen Trees? A Leaf Walk for the Littlest Tree Lovers

Description

Join us as we read the wonderful book Have You Seen Trees? by Joanne Oppenheim. We will hunt down the trees in this beautiful poem and make our own wonderful leaf collection to take home.

Fall Family Hike to Stebbins Gulch

Description Do you like cold streams, waterfalls, walls of towering rock and crayfish? If so Stebbins Gulch is the perfect place to explore if you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Join us as we travel back in time and into the stream. We'll search for crayfish, climb a waterfall and locate rock layers from earlier times. You might even find a fossil or stone carving. Bring a sense of adventure, waterproof boots and a change of clothes. Each family member must be able to walk up steep hills and and hike for two miles, often in the creek and around large rocks. Children age 8 and above.

Autumn Leaves and S'mores: A Fall Picnic

Description

There is no better way to spend a fall evening than listening to the crunch of leaves underfoot as you walk through the woods, collecting colorful examples and perhaps catching a glimpse of the few remaining frogs in the pond. Join us for a fall picnic. We will provide the s'mores, the leaf trail and the craft activities. The activities will be ongoing so you can collect, hike, eat and make things in whatever order you want. All you need to bring is your curiosity and picnic dinner.

Acorn Pancakes and Sumac Syrup

Description

Did you know that acorns can be made into flour?  We’ll create a wonderful homemade meal by gathering acorns from Holden’s large oak trees and turning them into delicious pancakes.  We’ll also top it off with syrup made from sumac berries. We will learn about other items from nature that are edible and ways that people have used plants to survive.

Description Do you like gigantic boulders with crevices, cracks and pools of water? Little Mountain is the perfect place to explore if you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Join us as we locate sites of old hotels, find names carved into rocks more than 100 years ago and search for the old spring house. Bring a sense of adventure and boots. Each family member must be able to walk up steep hills and and hike for two miles. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate foot gear for some wet walking. Children age 8 and above.
