Description Knitting in Nature for Inspiration and Tranquility reflects the meditative and relaxing aspects of knitting and nature. We'll share how spring's colors and patterns evoke inspiration. Tai Chi with Trees

Description

With its focus on coordinating breath and flowing gestures, Tai Chi is often described as meditation in motion. Medical research supports the many benefits of Tai Chi including positive effects on the immune system, lower blood pressure, increased flexibility, improved range of motion and balance, and reduced joint and back pain. Tai Chi is slow synchronized motion, standing and seated, reflective of the poetic rhythms of nature, uniting body, mind and spirit. The gentle movements increase muscle strength and tone, and develop awareness of “chi” for empowering inner stillness and relieving stress and anxiety. Tai Chi is easy to learn and suitable for all ages, body types and levels of fitness.

Hiking Holden Habitats: Me and My Dog

Description

Bring your dog and enjoy an informal nature program along Holden’s garden and woodland trails.  These casual hikes allow you to get some exercise with your four-legged friend while learning more about how the trees, plants and animals prepare for the winter. This is a easy to moderate hike.  Registration required

Special Rules Dogs must be leashed and well-mannered
Disruptive dogs will be asked to continue the hike separate from the group
Dog waste must be picked up and disposed of properly, bags provided.

Potluck with Your Pooch

Description

Enjoy an early evening hike with your dog to look at fall foliage.  We will finish with a potluck dinner in the shelter house and a warm fire.  Please bring a dish to share.  Hot beverages provided.  This is a moderate to rugged hike.

Wine and Cheese Night Hike

Description Enjoy a leisurely hike along Holden's woodland trails in search of night sounds, animal sightings and learn a bit about the night-time forest ecosystem. This is a rain or shine event so dress for the weather and wear appropriate hiking shoes. These hikes fill quickly – prompt registration is suggested. Adults only.

Falling Leaves and Falling Water Photo Tour

Description

Join Adams, author of the new book, A Photographer's Guide to Ohio, for a one-day photo tour of some of his favorite places for fall photography in and around Lake County. We'll visit Hach-Otis State Nature Preserve, with great views of the Chagrin River, and Indian Point, with equally fine views of the Grand River, as well as Chair Factory Falls and Paine Falls. Adams will share tips through a handout and on location for photographing fall color and waterfalls. We'll reconvene at The Holden Arboretum on Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 7-9pm to review some of your photographs taken on the photo tour and learn about some Photoshop techniques for fine-tuning your fall photographs. Participants should have a basic knowledge of digital photography, and be familiar with the operation and controls on their camera(s).

Celebrate Fall Colors in Silk

Description

Capture the beauty of fall foliage and nature's other colors in shimmering hand-painted silk using a resist method and water-based dyes that flow like watercolor. Release your inner artist as you create two painted silks, either 12" x 60" or 26" square, while learning brush control, color mixing, shading and a bit of history. Advanced students can make one large silk. No experience necessary. Bring a brown bag lunch.
