Painted Birdhouse

Description With spring time underway, our flying friends need somewhere to live. You can give them a unique home by painting a special birdhouse for them created by your imagination. We will also go on a short hike to learn about birds. The class ends with refreshments and a story.

Family Hike to Little Mountain

Description Do you like gigantic boulders, narrow passageways and pools of water? If so, Little Mountain is the perfect place to explore if you don't mind getting wet and dirty. Join us as we search for clues of a time gone by, such as the old spring house and discover names carved into rocks more than 100 years ago. Each family member must be able to walk up steep hills and hike for two miles. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate foot gear for some wet walking.

Detective Sallie Mander's Spring Seeds

Description It is spring and the seeds are ready to spring from their cases and start growing. Seeds come in all shapes and sizes - big, small, pointy and flat. We will hike to find some seeds and see if any have started growing. We will then plant seeds and make a seedy craft to take home while enjoying a seed snack.

Mothers Day Flower Wreath and Mom's Retreat

Description Create a lovely grapevine flower wreath for Mom while she takes an optional guided hike of the beautiful Lantern Court gardens and relaxes with some simple refreshments. Children will take a hike for inspiration and end their class with refreshments and a story.

Tree Homes and the Animals That Live in Them

Description What better place to learn about tree homes than at an Arboretum. Take a hike outside to learn how animals make and use trees for homes and see how many homes you can find. Then come back inside for a special treat where the staff from Lake Metroparks Wildlife Center will introduce you to some real live animals that live in the trees. Live animals are provided courtesy of the Lake Metroparks Wildlife Center.

Family Hike to Stebbins Gulch

Description Do you like cold streams, waterfalls, walls of towering rock and crayfish? If so, Stebbins Gulch is the perfect place to explore if you don't mind getting wet and dirty. Join us as we travel back in time and into the stream. We'll search for crayfish, climb a waterfall and locate rock layers from earlier times. You might even find a fossil or stone carving. Bring a sense of adventure, waterproof boots and a change of clothes. Each family member must be able to walk up steep hills and hike for two miles in, often times in the creek. Please dress for the weather and wear foot gear with good tread for some wet/slippery walking. Not advised for children under the age of eight.
