Holden Arboretum Summer Camps 2020

Habitat Hunters

Session I: June 15 – 19, 9am – 3pm
Grades: 1 – 2

Transportation available through Red Oak Camp

Animals and adventures fill each day as we take a close look at all the habitats, animals and plants around the arboretum, and discover how we are all interconnected.

  • Learn about Holden wildlife conservation efforts and try banding blue birds
  • Build your own bat box and pollinator hotel to take home
  • Enjoy a Riverwood water day catching macro invertebrates in the creek
  • Learn to fish on Corning Lake
  • Enjoy Canopy Walk and Emergent Tower and learn about the homes high above the ground

An Everchanging Planet

July 6 – 10, 9am – 3pm
Grades: 3 – 5
Cost: $300/member; $325/nonmember

What would the earth tell us if it could speak? Campers will learn to read the stories of the earth through geological formations and ecological areas in this fun and unique camp. Look closely to discover our planet’s interesting past and possible future.

  • Explore and learn the geological history of our Little Mountain area
  • Get your feet a little wet as we wonder through Stebbins Gulch  and discover what geological activities created the gulch
  • Tour the Holden research lab to see what Holden Arboretum scientists are discovering. Campers will even help the scientists run an experiment!

Working with Nature Day Camp

July 13 – 17, 9am – 4pm
Grades 5 – 9
Cost: $300

Working with Nature is the perfect balance between adventure and discovery. This partnership between Red Oak Camp and HF&G allows campers to spend half their day at Red Oak, enjoying activities like climbing, hiking, canoeing, archery, and more. The other half each day campers spend time working and learning at the Holden Arboretum. Campers will get hands-on experience from the Arboretum staff.


HF&G and Red Oak Overnight Adventure

Aug. 5 – 7, overnight
Grades 5 – 9
Cost: $225

The Red Oak/Holden Overnight Adventure is a unique opportunity to experience many of the highlights of what camp and the arboretum have to offer. We will be hitting some Holden highlights like the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Emergent Tower, a hike on Little Mountain, and a hike through Stebbins Gulch. Campers will also have the chance to try many camp activities, including canoeing, fishing, rock climbing, archery, tree climbing, swimming and more.
